HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc413-4W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she is able to give any undertaking about the financial position of the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work, in view of the need to promote training for all types of staff employed in the social services.

Mrs. Castle

Yes. The Government attach the highest importance to the development of training for the social services. In particular they are aware of the need for major expansion in the fields of residential social work and day care services. I am happy to say that despite the difficulties caused by the present economic situation it has been possible to give the council an assurance that it will be enabled to make a very significant increase in the scale of its activities.
