§ Mr. David Priceasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total number of housing units provided currently by local authorities in England and Wales for elderly persons; how many of these are in the non-metropolitan county of Hampshire; how are these distributed among the various districts and borough councils in Hampshire; and what relationship these figures bear to the total population in each case.
§ Mr. KaufmanI regret that the information is not aavilable. However, tenders were approved in England and Wales under Circular 82/69 during the five years 1969 to 1973 for the construction of 116,000 local authority dwellings consisting of some 5,500 grouped schemes specially designed for old people. Of these approximately 3,350 were for authorities within the area of the new county of Hampshire; these figures are equivalent to 2.4 dwellings per 1,000 population in each case.
The hon. Member may be able to obtain detailed figures from the new district councils.
