HC Deb 11 July 1974 vol 876 c555W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Attorney-General if he is satisfied with the law about the availability of an injunction to prevent a husband from molesting his wife.

The Attorney-General

Injunctions are readily available in connection with matrimonial proceedings and a wife can also take proceedings for assault when appropriate. There are practical difficulties about granting such relief in other circumstances, especially where the parties are living together. The Law Commission's work on rights of occupation of the matrimonial home, which is nearing completion, may be relevant on this point and it and the Finer Committee's recommendation on the same subject will be considered.
