HC Deb 05 February 1974 vol 868 cc260-1W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the total amount of money spent by Her Majesty's Government on providing Remploy factories since they were first initiated, the total spent on capital investment on equipment and his estimate of the amount per worker employed that this represents; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

Between 1945 and 1973 Remploy provided employment for 34,670 severely disabled people. During this period the total amount of capital spent by the Government on providing factories and equipment was £10,685,559 or about £308 per worker. These figures do not include my Department's revenue subvention to cover the company's running costs. It is regretted that the amount spent on equipment cannot readily be identified separately.

Mr. Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list in the OFFICIAL REPORT the value of contracts placed with Remploy Ltd. by each Government Department and public corporation for each year since 1964 to the present day.

Mr. Scott

I regret that the information sought is not available.
