HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 cc351-2W
54. Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, in view of the situation in Hull and North Humberside regarding residential accommodation for the mentally handicapped, if he will make a statement on his refusal to sanction plans for an adult hostel.

Sir K. Joseph

Though the provision of residential places for mentally handicapped adults in Kingston upon Hull is below the number required, it is in relation to the local population almost twice the national average. This project was one which I very much regret therefore had to be deferred from 1973–74 to a later year in the interest of an equitable distribution of available resources. I hope to be able to include it in the lists which will be issued shortly for 1974–75 and 1975–76.
