asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is his latest estimate of the total number of handicapped and impaired persons in Great Britain; how they are divided between the four categories of very seriously handicapped, severely handicapped, appreciably handicapped and impaired, 355W as defined in Amelia Harris's Report "Handicapped and Impaired in Great Britain"; and what numbers in each category are above retirement age and below school leaving age, respectively;
(2) what is his latest estimate of the number of handicapped and impaired mothers in Great Britain who have children below the school leaving age now who are sufficiently handicapped to fall in categories 1 to 6 of the definitions used in paragraph 3.3.3. of Amelia Harris's report "Handicapped and Impaired in Great Britain".

As regards adults there have been no fresh estimates since publication of the survey report. There are no comparable estimates of handicapped and impaired mothers with children below the age of 16, nor of handicapped and impaired children themselves.
