HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 c354W
Mr. Judd

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will make a statement on the working conditions at the central laboratories of St. Mary's Hospital, Portsmouth, with special reference to the recent industrial action by staff there who were dissatisfied with standards of cleanliness.

Sir K. Joseph

The Portsmouth Group Hospital Management Committee accepts that certain features of the working conditions of this laboratory at St. Mary's Hospital, Portsmouth are unsatisfactory and a scheme for improvements has already been included in this year's minor capital programme priority list.

In the longer term it will be necessary to rehouse the present laboratory services and this is programmed for 1977 as pant of a major capital development scheme.
