§ Mr. David Priceasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate, at the latest convenient date, of the number of persons in Great Britain over the two retirement ages; how many of such persons were in receipt of retirement pensions; and how many were known to be disabled or chronically sick, as defined in categories 1 to 6 in paragraph 3.3.3 of Amelia Harris's report "Handicapped and Impaired in Great Britain".
§ Mr. DeanIn December 1971, of about 8.8 million persons who were over the minimum pension ages of 65 for men and 60 for women, 7.6 million were in receipt of retirement pensions or widows' benefits. Since the report referred to by my hon. Friend was confined to persons living at home and related to 1968–69 I am afraid that it is not possible to provide the information asked for in the last part of his Question.
