HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 c432W
51. Mr. Sydney Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will seek to amend the law so that a local authority is permitted to meet in whole or part any expenses incurred in providing an adequate supply of water sufficient to meet the requirements of an existing dwelling-house within its area.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

Local authorities are already empowered to meet in whole or in part the cost of providing separate service pipes to houses supplied from the main by a common service pipe. The cost of improving water services is also admissible where this is incidental to the improvement of a house with grant-aid.
