HC Deb 06 July 1972 vol 840 c191W
40. Mr. Orme

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much money was recovered in June under the Payment of Debt (Emergency Provisions) Act, 1971; and when he now expects recovery to be completed.

Mr. Channon

The latest figures available, for the four weeks up to the end of May, show that a weekly amount of approximately £35,000–£38,000 was recovered from social security benefits under the Payments for Debt (Emergency Provisions) Act (Northern Ireland), 1971, and paid to the housing authorities. It is not possible to make a meaningful estimate of the period that will be required for all the arrears to be recovered.
