HC Deb 06 July 1972 vol 840 cc190-1W
39. Mr. Russell Kerr

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will introduce a special scheme of aid to schools in poor areas and to improve facilities and staffing; whether he is prepared to encourage educational skills by a special educational maintenance grant for those at school of 15 years of age and over; and whether he is yet able to announce his plans for such schools.

Mr. Channon

A substantial number of additional posts in schools affected by present conditions in Northern Ireland has been authorised and sympathetic consideration will continue to be given to the needs of such schools.

Maintenance allowances are available in cases of need as in Great Britain for pupils over the upper limit of compulsory school age.
