§ Mr. David HowellIt is not possible to state categorically how many people have been murdered by the IRA, but since August, 1969, 389 people have died as a result of terrorist activity. Monthly records of injuries were not kept prior to 1st July, 1970, but between October, 1968, and 25th June, 1972, 6,988 people were injured.
192WForty-eight persons have been charged with murder or attempted murder and 20 of these have so far been convicted. As regards arrests and convictions for "criminal assault" this term covers a wide range of offences and it is not possible to give a specific reply to this part of the Question.
