asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will consider assistance to Northern Ireland railways which have incurred additional losses through holding down price increases within the 5 per cent. ceiling recommended by the Confederation of British Industry.

Mr. David Howell

Yes. My right hon. Friend has decided to assist Northern Ireland railways by applying to them the same principles as were applied to British Railways in the Transport Grants Act earlier this year. Accordingly, an extra-statutory payment of £50,000 has been authorised.
