HC Deb 25 May 1971 vol 818 c119W
Mr. Ian Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people are suffering long-term unemployment in the Dumbarton/Alexandria employment exchange area; what is the figure as a percentage of those out of work; and how many are in the over-40 year age bracket.

Mr. Dudley Smith

At 5th April, 1971, in the area covered by the Dumbarton and Alexandria Employment Exchanges 1,639 people were registered as wholly unemployed and 240 of them (14.6 per cent.) had been on the registers for more than 52 weeks. A detailed age analysis of the wholly unemployed was last made for 11th January, 1971. At that date, 1,730 people were registered as wholly unemployed and 206 (11.9 per cent.) had been on the registers for more than 52 weeks, including 136 who were 40 years of age or over.
