HC Deb 25 May 1971 vol 818 cc119-20W
Mr. Oswald

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people, male and female, respectively, have passed through Government training centres in Scotland during the last 12 months; and whether he can now intimate the Government's training policy for the next 12 months.

Mr. Bryan

1,824 men and four women completed courses in Scotland during the 12 months up to March, 1971. With the recently-opened Centre at Dundee, we now have 10 Government Training Centres in Scotland, and it will be our aim in the coming year to use them as fully and flexibly as possible, with particular emphasis on training the unemployed.

Mr. Ian Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the number of persons trained in the Government training centre at Dumbarton in 1970; and to what percentage of those trained were placed in employment.

Mr. Bryan

155 trainees completed courses in 1970, of whom 136 (88 per cent.) have since been placed in employment.
