HC Deb 10 November 1970 vol 806 c78W
58. Mr. J. H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is now the average provision of welfare homes for the aged for 1,000 head of population in the county boroughs of England and Wales, county councils of England and Wales, and the London boroughs; and how this compares with the average in the City of Sheffield.

Mr. Alison

The ratio of places in these homes per 1,000 population of all ages, in England, is 2.9 for county boroughs, 2.2 for county councils, and 2.7 for London boroughs. The comparable ratio for Sheffield is 2.1 Figures for Welsh authorities are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
