§ 57. Mr. J. H. Osbornasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what has been the cost, by way of payments and distribution charges, respectively, and in total, of supplementary benefits paid out to both employees on strike, and locked out or laid off because of strikes elsewhere to date this year; and how this compares with last year's figures.
78W
§ Mr. DeanSupplementary benefit payments to strikers' dependants during trade disputes from 1st January to 30th September were £363,271 in 1969 and £867,311 in 1970. These figures do not distinguish between lockouts and strikes. I regret that neither figures of payments to those laid off as a result of disputes nor of administrative costs are available.
