HC Deb 10 November 1970 vol 806 cc102-3W
Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has for the protection of the coast line from pollution from north of the Tyne to south of the Tees.

Mr. Graham Page

Local authorities are statutorily responsible for making and carrying out plans to deal with the pollution caused by discharges of domestic sewage and trade effluents from public sewers. Major proposals for improving sewage disposal arrangements within an area stretching from the coast inland along both banks of the Tyne have been sent to me by Tyneside Joint Sewerage Board. Another large scale scheme for Teesside is in preparation while Hartlepool and other coastal authorities have schemes in hand for improving their sewage disposal arrangements.
