HC Deb 09 November 1970 vol 806 c58W
Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will hold an inquiry into the cause of the dispute between Rowlinsons, building contractors of Stockport, and the building workers who were employed on the Liverpool Road housing site, St. Helens, until their dismissal, and his Department's refusal to allow unemployment benefit in the normal way.

Mr. Bryan

I understand that this dispute has been referred to a Regional Conciliation Panel of the National Joint Council for the Building Industry and that a hearing took place on 6th November.

Test claimants representative of the workers involved have been disqualified for receiving unemployment benefit on the ground that they lost employment owing to a stoppage of work which was due to a trade dispute at their place of employment. The test claimants have lodged appeals to the local tribunal against the insurance officers decision. The date of the local tribunal hearing has still to be arranged.
