§ 49. Mr. Henigasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether the Government will now provide funds for the purpose of constructing an Opera House for the North-West in Manchester.
§ Miss Jennie Lee:It is for the Manchester City Council to decide whether it wants an opera house and is prepared to find at least half the cost. I will consider any approach made to me on this basis through the Arts Council but I cannot commit the Government in any way.
