(2) what is the average age of the members of the rent assessment committees; what are the ages of the youngest and the oldest members of these committees; and what provision exists for the removal of members of the committees on the grounds of age or incapacity.
§ Mr. Denis HowellThe average age of the members of rent tribunals (excluding reserve members) in England is 63; the youngest is 40 and the oldest 74. The average age of the members of rent assessment panels, from which members of rent assessment committees are appointed in England, is 59; the youngest is 25 and the oldest 74. All members of rent tribunals are also members of the rent assessment panel for the area in which the tribunal operates.
Chairmen retire during the twelve months prior to their 73rd birthday and members during the twelve months prior to their 75th birthday. My right hon. Friend has power, with the agreement of his noble and learned Friend the Lord Chancellor, to dispense with the services of any member if necessary.
