HC Deb 09 March 1970 vol 797 cc256-7W
Mr. Newens

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government (1) if he will seek powers to prevent discrimination against mobile home residents in eligibility for inclusion on the housing lists of local authorities;

(2) if he will obtain a list of those local authorities which discriminate against residents in mobile homes settled within their areas by insisting upon a longer period for residential qualification before acceptance on their housing lists.

Mr. Freeson

The Housing Management Sub-committee of the Central Housing Advisory Committee, in its recent report "Council Housing: Purposes, Procedures and Priorities", recommended that there should be no residential qualification for admission to a housing list, and that no one should be precluded from applying for, or being considered for, a council house on any ground whatsoever, and the Department has drawn attention to this recommendation. Copies of the report have been sent to all housing authorities and to the local authority associations in preparation for discussions on the conclusions and recommendations in the report.
