HC Deb 06 March 1970 vol 797 c206W
Dr. Winstanley

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what is the average age of the members of the rating tribunals, local valuation courts; what are the ages of the youngest and oldest members of the courts; and what provision exists for the removal of members from these courts on the grounds of age or incapacity.

Mr. Freeson

The members of local valuation courts are appointed by local authorities and I have no information about their ages. Since 1966 all new schemes for the constitution of local valuation panels, from whose members a valuation court is constituted, have been required to include a provision for an upper age limit of 72 years.

All schemes contain a provision which enables the Minister or the appointing local authorities to remove a member from office.
