HC Deb 06 March 1970 vol 797 cc206-7W
Mr. Lipton

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what was the total amount paid from Government sources in rate support grants to the London Borough of Lambeth in each year from 1965–66 onwards, and the estimated amount for 1970–71.

Mr. Freeson

The latest estimates of rate support grants payable to the London Borough of Lambeth for the years 1967–68, 1968–69, 1969–70 and 1970–71 and the corresponding grants for the two previous years are shown below.

The school milk and meals grant, which was superseded by the rate support grants in 1967–68, was formerly paid to the Inner London Education Authority.

The figures for the needs element of rate support grants are the amounts after deduction of the proportion to be transferred to the Greater London Council —one-ninth for 1967–68 and 40 per cent. for 1968–69, 1969–70, and 1970–71. The transfer of a greater proportion of grant to the Greater London Council is reflected in a reduction in that council's precept.

No account is taken of the effects of rate equalisation schemes.
