Mr. Brian Parkyn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will take further action to settle the 20-year-old dispute with the Government of the People's Republic of China over telephone communication, so that it will be possible to telephone direct from London to Peking.

We have not attempted to raise this question with the Chinese since 1966 when they indicated that it was not convenient to discuss the matter at that time. I am now looking into the question again.
