HC Deb 02 March 1970 vol 797 cc10-1W
Sir G. Nabarro

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further conversations he has had with President Nasser concerning the incarceration of British ships in the Suez Canal; and how much monetary and economic aid Great Britain has given Egypt since the ships were incarcerated.

Mr. Luard

As regards talks with President Nasser, none. As regards aid, in the spring of 1968 we helped provide the United Arab Republic with a financial facility which was later repaid. We have not offered Capital Aid since 1967 but we have a programme of technical assistance.
