HC Deb 02 March 1970 vol 797 cc9-10W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is his latest estimate of the recent or prospective departure from Kenya of Asian holders of United Kingdom passports; what communications and consultations he has had thereon with the Kenyan, Indian and Pakistan Governments; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Luard

6,249 United Kingdom passport holders were admitted to the United Kingdom from East Africa in 1969. Separate figures for Kenya are not available. I do not have figures for departures from Kenya for other destinations. On the question of consultations with other Governments, I have nothing further to add to the reply given to the hon. Member on 2nd February by my hon. Friend the Joint Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State.—[Vol. 795, c. 16–17.]

Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many applications for entry to the United Kingdom by East African Asians holding United Kingdom passports, at present resident in Kenya, were under consideration on 1st March, 1970.

Mr. Luard

Since it is too early [or the return of information, as at the 1st of March, to have reached us from the, High Commission in Nairobi, I would refer to the written reply which my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State gave to the hon. Member for Surbiton (Mr. Fisher), on 16th February which indicated the position in Kenya at 31st January, 1970. I will write to my hon. Friend to let him have the information he has requested as soon as this is available.—[Vol. 796, c. 18–19.]
