HC Deb 19 January 1970 vol 794 cc79-80W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Transport what were the causes of the 14 injury accidents in Hedge Lane, Palmers Green, from 1st June, 1969 until 3rd November, 1969; how many accidents in total occurred, with or without injuries from 1st June, 1969 until 31st December 1969, and what were the causes; and what action he has taken or intends taking to reduce these accidents.

Mr. Mulley

During the six months to 31st December, 1969, 15 accidents causing personal injury occurred on the A.111 from the Cambridge Roundabout to the junction with Green Lanes and Hoppers Road. We have no record of other accidents on this route.

Of the ten that occurred in Hedge Lane itself, one caused a fatality, one serious injury and eight slight injury.

The general characteristics of these accidents were:

Head-on collision 1
Cross-road collisions 4
Loss of control 2
Insecure load 1
Pedestrians 2

It is for the Greater London Council, as highway and traffic authority, to consider whether this accident record indicates a need to take preventive measures.
