asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in order that local authorities can enter on their clearance programmes with foreknowledge of the availability of the new proposed subsidies, he will now announce that these clearance subsidies will be granted to all houses included in clearance areas after 3rd November.

In discussing the new subsidy system with the local authorities I shall bear in mind the need to maintain and increase the momentum of slum clearance.
