Mr. Edward M. Taylorasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many persons were unemployed in Scotland at the most recent date for which figures are available; and what was the total of unfilled vacancies on the same date.
§ Mr. Dell:At April, 1970, 89,385 persons were registered as unemployed in Scotland and 17,480 vacancies remained unfilled. Both figures are provisional. The vacancy statistics relate only to vacancies notified to this Department and do not purport to measure the total unsatisfied demand for labour.
