HC Deb 23 April 1970 vol 800 cc138-9W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many employees, male and female, respectively, were in employment in Scotland and Fife, respectively, in the month of June in each of the last 10 years.

Mr. Dell:

Following is the information:

The estimates for Scotland for June, 1964(b) and later dates were calculated by a revised method and are not strictly comparable with those for June, 1964(a) and earlier dates. The estimates for June, 1969 for Scotland published in the March, 1970 issue of the Employment and Productivity Gazette include for the first time improved information about the location of employees in employment in the distributive trades. They are thus not fully comparable with estimates for earlier dates. The effects of his change have been measured and alternative estimates which exclude the new information have been calculated for June 1969 in order that comparisons may be made with estimates for earlier dates. In the above table, estimates for Scotland are shown on both bases (a) excluding and (b) including the new information about the location of employees in the distributive trades.

Estimates for Fife for June, 1969 are expected to become available next month.
