HC Deb 15 April 1970 vol 799 c233W
11. Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what recommendations he has received from the Meat and Livestock Commission regarding home production; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

In December, 1969, the Commission suggested to my Department that additional financial incentives were required to arrest the decline in home-produced mutton and lamb. The Commission was told that its views would be taken into account in the Annual Review.

Mr. Jopling

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action he intends to take to increase the share of the home lamb and mutton market held by home producers.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

We certainly want to see a recovery in flock numbers and the increase of 3d. in the guaranteed price this year should help to provide further resources and encouragement to all sectors of the industry.
