asked the Secretary of State for Defence what was the total number of lives saved by the Royal Air Force helicopter rescue service in the South-West.

Detailed records are available only for the three years up to 31st March, 1970. During that period, nine people were rescued who would otherwise probably have died. A further 111 civilians in less serious difficulty were assisted.
