HC Deb 08 April 1970 vol 799 c73W
Rear-Admiral Morgan-Giles

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the present shortage of married quarters for British military personnel based in Berlin; and what is the average waiting time for officers, non-commissioned officers and other ranks.

Mr. Hattersley

The present shortage of married quarters for Army personnel, on current scales of provision, is 78. For Royal Air Force personnel the shortage of married quarters is 29. The average waiting time for officers in both Services is minimal; that for other ranks is currently 3–4 months. Approval has been given for the construction of 29 additional airmen's quarter's and 28 additional quarters for Army non-commissioned officers and other ranks and sites for the balance required are being investigated.
