HC Deb 09 December 1969 vol 793 c100W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what has been the percentage increase, at annual rates, of wage rates and earnings, and of salaries during the last available three months.

Mr. Harold Walker

Between end-June, 1969, and end-September, 1969, the index of average weekly wage rates rose by 1.3 per cent. and the seasonally adjusted index of average earnings (including salaries) rose by 2.1 per cent.

Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many wage and salary increases have been notified to her Department during the last available three months; how many employees are covered by such increases; and what has been the average rate of increase.

Mr. Harold Walker

The details asked for are not available for settlements of all sizes. There were 29 major settlements covering 10,000 or more workers notified during September, October and November, 1969. About two and three-quarter million workers were covered by these settlements and the average increase on minimum rates was 7.7 per cent.
