HC Deb 21 April 1969 vol 782 c23W
Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the gross and the net yield of Selective Employment Tax from Scotland in 1968–69.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated yield from Scotland in a full year of the increase in road fuel duty and of the proposed increase in Selective Employment Tax.

Mr. Taverne

It is estimated that the gross yield for Selective Employment Tax in Scotland in 1968–69 was about £125 million. A figure for the net yield for Scotland in 1968–69 cannot be given but it is estimated that the net yield from the tax-bearing sector in Scotland in a full year at the current rates would be about £45.5 million and the additional cost of the increased rates will be about £12.5 million. Manufacturers in Scotland are receiving nearly £50 million a year in Regional Employment Premiums and Selective Employment Tax additional payments.

The increase in hydrocarbon oils duty will yield about £3½ million in a full year.
