HC Deb 26 February 1968 vol 759 c227W
49. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in his recent visit to Japan, what discussions took place on the desirability of Japan extending aid to developing countries; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. George Brown

As the Joint Communiqué shows, assistance to developing countries was one of the subjects I discussed with Japanese Ministers. We agreed that countries like ourselves must do our best to help developing countries to raise the standard of living of their peoples with consequential advantages to world trade and political stability.

50. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in what year the next round of regular consultations between Japan and this country will take place in London.

Mr. George Brown

No discussions have yet take place with the Japanese Government about this. But I hope that it will be possible for the next round to take place later this year or at the beginning of next.
