HC Deb 09 December 1968 vol 775 cc12-3W
47 and 48. Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Minister of Transport (1) on what grounds he made his decision not to subsidise the line from Exeter to Okehampton; and if he will make a statement;

(2) how he arrived at the figure of £150,000 a year to keep open the line from Exeter to Okehampton.

Mr. Carmichael

The decision to refuse grant was made in the light of the cost and the usage of the service. The tentative conclusion was that a grant would not represent value for money.

The calculation of the annual grant required was based on estimated total costs of almost £170,000 and estimated earnings of £20,000.
