HC Deb 02 April 1968 vol 762 c51W
43. Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what will be the effect on Scottish industrial costs of the additional charges on freight, as set out in his Budget statement on 19th March.

Mr. Diamond

Detailed statistics for precise calculation are not available, but it is estimated that the additional cost to industrial and commercial vehicles will be £3.7 million in respect of increased vehicle excise duty and £2 million in respect of increased duty on hydrocarbon oil used by goods vehicles. As against this, it is estimated that there will be a saving of £3 million for Scotland by the abandonment of wear and tear charges which it was previously proposed to levy under the Transport Bill.
