HC Deb 02 March 1967 vol 742 cc146-7W
72. Mr. Will Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that the Government of the United Arab Republic have officially denied that they have used poison gas in the Yemen, and have asked the United Nations Organisation to appoint a fact-finding mission to go to the Yemen immediately; and if he will give an assurance that the British Government will support the United Arab Republic action at the United Nations Organisation.

Mr. George Thomson

I am aware of the United Arab Republic's denial. I understand that, although they have indicated formally to the United Nations that they would agree to an investigating mission, they have not taken the necessary steps to ensure that action is taken by sending the Secretary-General the firm invitation he would require. Her Majesty's Government would be in favour of an investigation if one were formally proposed.
