HC Deb 21 December 1967 vol 756 cc501-2W
51. Mr. Moyle

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will now announce the amount of the United Kingdom contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for the agency's next financial year.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts:

In 1968 Her Majesty's Government will as usual make a substantial contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. However, the announcement of a precise figure for the coming year has had to be delayed while all aspects of our overseas aid expenditure are reviewed in the light of devaluation.

52. Mr. Moyle

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will now announce the amount of the United Kingdom contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for the agency's current financial year.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts:

Her Majesty's Government's contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for the current year was announced at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency Pledging Conference held in New York on the 2nd of December of last year at the level of $4.5 million. In addition to this ordinary contribution, Her Majesty's Government decided, in the aftermath of the June war this year, to make a supple. mentary contribution of $500,000 in view of the greatly increased burden placed upon the United Nations Relief and Works Agency by the displacement of some 350,000 "new" refugees in the Middle East. Both these amounts have already been fully made over to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.
