Earl of Dalkeithasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the increasing importance of home-grown timber production to the national economy following devaluation of the£ sterling, he will now introduce a grant for forestry roads similar to the grant for agricultural roads, so as to ensure the swift and efficient extraction of timber.
§ Mr. RossDevaluation should help to make the prices of home-grown timber more competitive with those of imported timber. The question whether any further incentives to the production of homegrown timber, such as a grant for forest roads, are needed would have to be looked at against this background.
