§ 86. Mr. G. Campbellasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs what obligations Her Majesty's Government are under to assist Brunei with armed forces to defend her territory; under what agreement such obligations arise; and for how long they are due to last.
§ Mr. George ThomsonBrunei is a State under British protection, and our responsibilities are set out in the Brunei Agreement 1959. Broadly, we are responsible for the external affairs and defence of the State, including defence against any grave threat to its peace or tranquility.
There is no provision in the Agreement covering its duration.
