HC Deb 11 December 1967 vol 756 c28W
85. Mr. G. Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs what obligations Her Majesty's Government are still under to assist Malaysia with armed forces in defending her territory, following the end of confrontation, should a major threat again develop or hostile military incursions take place; under what agreement such obligations arise; and how long they are due to last.

Mr. George Thomson

We have undertaken to afford to the Government of Malaysia such assistance as they may require for the external defence of their territory. This obligation arises under the 1957 Defence Agreement with Malaya, as applied to Malaysia by the 1963 Malaysia Agreement.

Each party retains the right to suggest a review of the Agreement should this seem necessary.
