asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that a maximum fine of £5 for the offence of fighting in a public place is inadequate in the light of modern earnings, and whether he will take steps to increase it.

Yes. This is one of the fines which my right hon. Friend proposes to deal with in the Criminal Justice Bill which will be introduced this Session.
