HC Deb 03 August 1966 vol 733 c119W
Mr. Wall

asked the Minister of Transport whether she is satisfied that a single span suspension bridge is the cheapest method of spanning the Humber; and what alternative designs have been studied.

Mr. Swingler

A suspension bridge is the only structure which will provide a main span of 4,536 ft. as required by the Humber Bridge Act, 1959.

Mr. Wall

asked the Minister of Transport what would be the estimated cost and the time in construction of a bridge over the Humber.

Mr. Swingler

The estimated cost of the bridge and approach roads, excluding land costs, is approximately £12½ million at present day prices, and the construction time 5½ years.
