HC Deb 02 March 1965 vol 707 cc225-6W
Mr. Evelyn King

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the value of mini-minor works carried out by educational authorities in Dorset last year which next year they will not be enabled to do without Ministerial consent.

Mr. Crosland

Mini-minor projects to the value of £42,000 were carried out by the Dorset local education authority in 1963–64; the corresponding figure for the first nine months of 1964–65 was £31,000. These projects do not normally require my consent, but in future they will have to be charged to the authority's minor works allocation.

Mr. Evelyn King

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science why he has reduced the volume of building improvements, commonly called mini-minor works, which local authorities used to be able to do without obtaining Ministerial consent.

Mr. Crosland

I would refer the hon. Member to the Answer given by my hon. Friend the Minister of State to the hon. Member for Hemel Hempstead (Mr. Allason) on 11th February.
