HC Deb 21 June 1965 vol 714 c160W
Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps are being taken to encourage the growth of small museums in Scotland.

Mr. Ross

A council for museums and galleries in Scotland which receives financial support from the Government has been established with the object of extending the influence and improving the facilities of local museums and galleries. The council has appointed a Development Officer to survey the needs of museums and galleries. The purchase grants available to local museums through the Royal Scottish Museum have been increased from £4,000 in 1964–65 to £8,000 in 1965–66.
