45. Mr. Shepherd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of the complexity of the legislation governing reliefs, immunities and conditions in respect of pensions; and whether he will order a comprehensive review in order to simplify the statutes and improve them.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

These are certainly complex. They were, however, reviewed both by the Radcliffe Commission and the Tucker Committee, and I very much doubt whether a formal review would be of value at present.
