HC Deb 17 July 1963 vol 681 c55W
49. Mr. Wall

asked the Minister of Transport what additional off-street parking facilities in the central London area have been provided in 1960–61, 1961–62 and 1962–63, respectively; and what is the total number of off-street parking spaces available today compared to the estimated demand for such spaces in central London in daytime.

Mr. Galbraith

We have no figures for 1960–61. In 1961–62, 1,600 spaces were provided, in 1962–63, 3,000. The total now available is 24,000. It is not possible to estimate demand precisely but in some parts of central London, in contrast to the pressure on street parking facilities, a considerable amount of space is available in some off-street parks. Elsewhere, new garages are being planned to meet the demand.
